25 Eighth Graders from King Middle School Spend a Day at Portland Headquarters

Winxnet Press Release
PORTLAND, Maine -- On Friday, January 22, 2016 Winxnet, an IT outsourcing and consulting firm headquartered in Portland, hosted 25 students from King Middle School as a part of the Job Shadow Day with Junior Achievement of Maine. The day focused on enriching students about business, and helping them learn vital skills to be contributing members of their community.

"It continues to be an honor to work with the Junior Achievement of Maine and support the great work that they do," said Liz Riley, Sales and Marketing Manager. "Our team enjoys opening our doors to local students to talk about technology, business and potential careers in our field. I know my colleagues and leaders at Winxnet look forward to sharing their experiences and advice with the students."

Winxnet supports a variety of community events in all of its office locations throughout the year. In addition to Junior Achievement's Job Shadow Day, Winxnet kicked off a company-wide United Way campaign to try and support our local communities. Winxnet will also participate in the Children's Advocacy Center 5K in Tennessee and the HMEA Independence 5K in Massachusetts this spring.

Prepare for What's Ahead in 2016
Posted on 12/30/2015 9:35:16 AM by Chris Claudio

As 2015 has now officially left us forever, developing a strategic IT plan for 2016 is necessary and should already be complete if not well underway. I am a passionate IT strategist and avid about how technology can be used as a competitive advantage and a strategic tool for an organization. As many of you hone your execution plans for 2016, it is important that you and your leadership teams begin (or continue) to see IT as a strategic requirement in your organization and as a result, invest wisely in IT initiatives.

The current pace of technological change has forced a paradigm shift in how both IT leaders and executives view technology. Not only is technology a requirement in nearly every business on the planet, but it is clearly a difference maker in competitive scenarios. As a result, it has become impossible to maintain organizational excellence in IT without incorporating the following tenets into IT and business planning:

Vision - In order to take your organization to the next level, you and your leadership team need to develop a strategic vision for the company as a whole and how technology plays a supporting role. Your vision doesn't necessarily need to be utopic, but certainly ambitious enough to drive some challenging planning and associated activities.

Strategy - IT should be utilized as Business Strategy within your organization. Create a strategy ensuring that everything that happens is driven by business initiatives that will help your company reach your ultimate vision.

In these attacks the perpetrators use publically available data to target the companies' financial officers. They send an email to the officer as if from the company's top management requesting a money transfer. In one of the latest examples the attackers went as far as registering a similarly looking domain name and setting up email services to make the attack more believable.

This increased effort and sophistication is a disturbing trend. However, there are always plenty of red flags that a well-trained and vigilant staff can spot. While this post can't replace the results a business would see from dedicated awareness training from a security professional, here are some of the common attributes of these social engineering messages to help you identify the signs of this type of attack:
