MaineHealth – SharePoint Intranet Site

In support of its mission to make Maine’s communities the healthiest in the United States, nonprofit healthcare organization MaineHealth embarked on a system-wide initiative to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes by making an electronic health record accessible to providers and patients in its communities. In order to do so, the healthcare organization partnered with Winxnet for the development and implementation of a Microsoft SharePoint site, referred to as “Shared electronic Health Record” (SeHR).

Before developing the intranet site, Winxnet evaluated the SeHR objective: to provide the right information to the right person, at the right time, in the right context to support research, education, personal health and the health status of the community. The design was impacted by performing a discovery and creating mockup examples for MaineHealth’s review.

The user-friendly site was subsequently designed to deliver tailored information based on individual roles within the organization, with a homepage that is relevant to all stakeholders. As a result, web visitors can identify themselves according to the option that best matches their role in the healthcare system.

MaineHealth can now leverage many of SharePoint’s out-of-the-box capabilities for employee functionality such as blogging, video, informational forms, calendars, news, and search. The SharePoint portal provides critical information about the SeHR rollout to physicians, nurses, front desk and other support poitions, technologists, therapists, pharmacies, etc. This information includes not only FAQs and training material, but the ability to locate a SeHR expert colleague, a countdown clock function to go-live and other information that will assist with a smoother transition to the electronic record.
